University of Manitoba - Tech Transfer Office

The University of Manitoba has been at the centre of research in Manitoba for more than a century.  University of Manitoba scientists, engineers, artists and scholars are finding innovative solutions to many of the challenges facing Canada and the world.
With the support of our partners in research, including governments, industry, and community organizations, they are discovering new ways to improve our health, increase our understanding of ourselves and our world, advance our technology, strengthen our communities and protect our environment.
The University’s Technology Transfer Office (TTO) currently manages an intellectual property estate of over 400 patents, covering 280 platform technologies. The TTO has also successfully launched over 35 new ventures over the past two decades. These companies employ around 1200 people across North America and produce a significant positive impact on the local and Canadian economy.
The University’s new Transformational Partnerships approach actively supports industry in making those innovation leaps through collaborative research and development partnerships.

Conference Objective

The University of Manitoba Technology Transfer Office is the industry liaison office for the University of Manitoba. 
We both license technology and facilitate research collaborations.

Dr. Dexter received her PhD from the University of Alberta specializing in the environmental impacts of genetically modified crops, gene flow via pollen and seeds, weed science and agronomy.
Since graduation, Jody has extensively worked in the areas of microbiology, oncology, and pharmaceuticals as a Project Manager at Genome Prairie and as a Business Development Associate at Cangene Corporation.

Dr. Odd Bres Technology Transfer ManagerP: 1 204 292 4238

Dr. Bres has a degree in biological science from the University of Alberta, and received a PhD in comparative physiology from the University of Manitoba in 1988, followed by work at UC, Berkeley and UCLA as an NSERC Postdoctoral Fellow. 
He left academia to establish a biotechnology startup company in genetic analysis services.
Dr. Bres now serves the University in managing intellectual property and technology commercialization.
