Aurora Vaccines

Aurora Vaccines is a spin-off company from the University of Alberta founded by two hepatitis experts: Dr. Micahel Houghton, who discovered the Hepatitis C virus, and Dr. Lorne Tyrell, who discovered Iamivudine, the first oral antiviral agent for chronic Hepatitis B. Aurora Vaccines' major product is a novel prophylactic vaccine against Hepatitis C. The high global burden of this disease and the suboptical access to antiviral drugs make a vaccine an unmet need.
Our novel prophylactic vaccine is the only vaccine under development that has been proven to reduce the ensuing chronicity rate in animal models, and it elicits both neutralizing antibodies and cellular immune responses known to correlation with protection.
The vaccine is currently being manufactured under GMP for Phase 1 clinical testing in human volunteers
