Elsius Biomedical

Elsius wants to bring to the market an ECMO (ExtraCorporeal Membrane Oxygenator) system that is better than what is actually the standard of care, is transportable for emergency use, allows better patient outcomes and requries less time in the hospital, thus significantly cutting costs. ECMO is basically a combination of an artificial Heart (blood pump) and an artificial lung (blood oxygenator), those two components take some of the load off the cardiopulmonary system of very sick patients allowing them to heal better and faster. The two main issues in ECMO are portability/flexibility and negative impact on blood. Elsiu' product is portable, so it can be used in a wider number of applications, especially in emergency situations. It also allows doctors to reduce the use of blood thinners significantly. This is obtained by combining the blood pump and the oxygenator into a single compact unity, and because all the blood contacting surfaces in our device are treated with a proprietary coating, that makes them more similar to the inside of the human blood vessels.
