Biolin

Biolin Research Inc. of Saskatoon (“Biolin”) was founded more than 15 years ago with the goal of finding ways to commercialize and profit from the processing of under-utilized and often burdensome flax straw that is produced when oilseed flax is grown in Western Canada. Eventually Biolin was able to build a pilot processing plant on a small industrial lot in Saskatoon and employ eight people with outside research funding and trial product sales exceeding $300,000/yr. We did a wide range of flax and hemp straw and fiber related research. Unfortunately, by 2015 the small physical space we had, stopped us from physically scaling up our line to the level needed to be viable commercially so we sold our building, put our processing line and lab equipment in shipping containers, moved out of the city and laid off staff in anticipation of finding investor/partners to finance our commercial scale up.

Conference Objective

To meet potential customers for assorted types of flax and hemp fibers, meet people involved in sourcing funds (e.g., equity, grants, loans, alternative financing); and meet potential companies and/or individuals who want to become investors and/or active partners in helping Biolin build profitable commercial scale facilities and grow the company over time.
